It's Flooding Again

It's raining again in south East Qld and northern NSW and there is local flooding in some areas.

This is what I encountered driving home yesterday afternoon from work.
This road rarely floods. In the floods last year it only flooded twice but it has now been flooded since yesterday morning.

I wasn't going to attempt to go through the flood water, unlike some other drivers I saw.
I turned around and took a higher road to get home. It might have taken me 20mins more to get home but at least myself and my car are safe.

I can't believe that some drivers, especially in small cars, will attempt to drive through flooded roads. It isn't worth the risk of your life, even if there is no other way to get home.

The above photos are all from the Gold Coast Bulletin website.

I woke up this morning to my backyard flooding.

A quick phone call to Treasure (who is away working) and a disaster has been diverted. There is now a hose from the backyard to the front draining all the water out onto the road. The water just missed going into the garage. I'm so glad Treasure has made sure that the trenches he made during our floods last year are still there to get rid of the excess water.

BLOGGER MEET

Yes it is Bec from Oh Sew Busy who is coming to visit SE Qld in November.
Bec is my niece and she is coming to visit me for 5 days. It will be really good to see her, her husband and kids.

We have had to change the date for the Blog Meet as she is now coming up a week earlier.

We will now be meeting on Saturday 5th November at the park next to the caravan park and boat ramp at Jacobs Well from 10.30 am.

There is a kids playground at the park and also great fishing in Jacobs Well so bring family as well if anyone wants too. bring some food to share for morning tea.

Jacobs Well is halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, about 30 mins from both places.

It will be really great to see lots of people there. Bec is really looking forward to seeing everyone.

I've been hibernating

I've been hibernating over the past couple of months.
Well, actually I haven't but I wish I had been.

I've been busy working, doing courses for work and I've also embarked on a Diploma of Management through TAFE. I'm wondering why I agreed to do it as there is a lot of work involved with assignments and projects to be completed and we only have until the end of the year to complete it. It is really hard studying when you haven't studied for over 25 years. My work has organised the diploma through TAFE and about 20 staff have enrolled. That is the only good thing about the course as we have classes together each month and are able to help each other with the assignments. We all can't wait until it is all over and are already organising the party to celebrate.

I'm also trying to plan our wedding in Scotland next year.

This all means that I have had very little time to sew, stitch, read, blog or just enjoy life.

This is what I sent Melody for the Winter swap in The Once A Season Swap organised by Cheryll.

I made Melody a casserole mat and a pot holder and bought her some other small goodies.

This is what Maria sent me.
She made me a gorgeous casserole holder and 2 large pot holders. They are great and I can't wait to use them.

I now have to think about what I'm going to make for ?? for the Spring swap.

Sydney Quilt Show

I was lucky enough to have last weekend off work so headed down to Sydney to the Quilt Show with Maree and Lyn. It was an early morning wake up call (4am) on Friday as I had to pick Maree and then Lyn up and be at Gold Coast Airport at 6am to catch the 7am plane to Sydney.

I was really excited as I have never been to the Sydney Quilt Show. I wasn't dissappointed, it was a great couple of days with lots to see and do. The quilts were amazing.
I also met up with some blogging friends at Chookyblue's blog met on Friday.

We went out on Friday night to dinner.
It was a surprise to see Lynda from Brisbane. We only live about an hour away from each other but have to go to Nundle and now Sydney to see each other. I will get up to Brisbane later in the year to go shopping with you Lynda, I do promise.
