The Scottish Quilt Championships 2012

We happened to be in Edinburgh while the Scottish Quilt Championships was on. We went to see what the quilts were like. They were gorgeous and many were hand quilted.
This is the Grand Champion.

Hand quilted Quilt

A few months ago I decided to go to learn needle turn. There were 6 classes to teach different ways of doing needle turn. We were to do 6 blocks and then we could make a baby quilt out of it.

The 1st block was hearts.

The 2nd block was an apple.

The 3rd block was a duck.

The 4th block was a beehive.

The 5th block was a moon and stars.

The 6th block was flowers.

I really enjoyed doing the needle turn and intend to do more in the future.

We all decided that we also wanted to learn how to hand quilt as none of us have ever done any handquilting. We then had 2 lessons to learn how to hand quilt.
I really hated the hand basting as I pin all my quilts and then machine quilt them. I'm not really enjoying hand quilting the quilt but I am going to perserve with it.
I have also given myself a time limit of 5 years to have it finished as I don't think my son or Treasure's children will have any children of their own for at least 5 years.
I really love the border fabric of owls.

My online stitching group had a Winter Wonderland Swap. I received this wonderful parcel from the very talented Michelle. I had to borrow Michelle's photo of the unopened parcel as I was too eager to find out what was inside to go looking for my camera. In the parcel was all these gorgeous pressies. I love them all. I got these 3 pieces of fabric, 2 of which are felt. They will make a great Christmas project. One of Michelle's patterns. I can't wait to make it. Chamomile tea, which is my favourite tea and Lindt chocholates, which are my favourite choccies. It was a shame Treasure was home as he pinched the choccies before I had a chance to hide them from him. 2 balls of wool. Now I just have to decide what to make out of them. A beautiful needle case with some threads and needles inside. A gorgeous scarf and yes Michelle it will be perfect to take to Scotland in September when we go over there. Thank you so much Michelle for my wonderful pressies. When I know my parcel has arrived at it's new home I will reveal what I sent and to whom it went to!! Thank you Maree for organising another wonderful swap.

Pencil Cases

I made these pencil cases last year for my niece's children. She had 5 children and homeschools so I thought they would love to have their own pencil case each. I also made them a water bottle holder each and one for my niece Bec as well. I was able to get different zipper holders and then got the fabric to match each zipper holder. They all really loved them. Now I just have to find the time to make more for my other niece's children.

Tuesday's Treasures

I received this gorgeous lead light lamp from Treasure for my birthday last November. We spent a few days in Montville for my birthday. While strolling along the main street and checking out all the great shops we came across "The Bowerbird Shop". It was full of wonderful ornaments, clocks, lamps and other nicnacs. I was in heaven.
I saw this lamp and just had to have it. Treasure also loved this lamp.
It is green with just the most beautiful shades of orange and red showing through when it is turned on. It now takes pride of place on my bedside table and I love using it to read in bed.
Go over to Melody's blog to see more Tuesday's Treasures.
