Tuesday's Treasures

This week I have decided to look in my jewellery box for my Tuesday Treasures.

I discovered the 1st piece of jewelley that I have owned.

It is a bluebird necklace that my parent's bought me when I was a baby. It is a locket but has never had any photos in it.

I haven't worn it for a number of years but it is still very special to me.

Tuesday's Treasures

My treasures for this Tuesday are the various cards and presents that my son has made for me over the years.

When he was younger he always made me cards for Mother's Day. I have kept all of them and also have many pictures that he drew as a young boy.

He made the photo frame when he was 8yrs old and it still sits on the top of my cabinet.

He made the dish in High School and I do occasionally use it.

I also remember a keyring holder that he made when he was about 10yrs old but I couldn't find it today. I have put it away for safe keeping. I will have to find it for another Tuesday.

Thanks to Clare for hosting Tuesday's Treasures.

Mum's Holiday and Projects

My Mum is staying with me for 2 weeks. She lives in Sydney and at 85yrs old still lives on her own and looks after herself.

While she has been up here we haven't done very much. We went to Tamborine Mountain for a few hours. She really loves the Lavender shop and one of the craft shops there and I really love the German Clock shop. She bought some small soaps and 2 packets of lavender to make lavender sachets for small gifts.

We also went for a drive around the Boardwater of the Gold Coast. She enjoyed looking at all the boats on the Boardwater.

My son took her to New Farm Park in Brisbane which is full of hundreds of rose bushes but of course most of them had just been pruned so only a few were in bloom. She enjoyed walking through the park and along the river.

Mum has spent most of her days here sitting, reading my quilting books and knitting. She likes to do some knitting every day to help with the arthritis in her hands.

She now knits small items such as coathanger covers and then makes them into lovely coathangers as presents.

While she has been here she has finished a small scarf, knitted some coathanger covers ready to make up at home, and done some of a Humpty Dumpty that she is knitting for her newest great grandson.

She loves to knit toys and has made quite a few over the years. She mainly knits toys from Jean Greenhowe's books. She has made toys for all her children, grandchildren and now is making them for her great granchildren.

I have shown my collection of her knitted toys in a previous post.

Tuesday's Treasures - Cups and Saucers

I was given this small cup and saucer set which belonged to my Nan after she died. She was my Mum's mother. I really adored her and I was only 10yrs old when she died. She had had a number of strokes and my Mum had looked after her quite a lot in my early years.

I remember at the age of 4 constantly getting my Mum to make Nan a cup of tea while she sat on our front verandah. I would spend all day combing her hair and helping her eat and drink. She was unable to talk and was paralysed on the right side of her body.

When Nan died all of her granddaughters were given a cup and saucer. She had very little to give and a large family. She didn't have enough normal sized sets so the younger granddaughters were given a small cup and saucer.

I really treasure my set as I have very little that belonged to Nan. My most treasured memories of her are getting her cups of tea so it is only fitting that I have this cup and saucer.

I got this cup, saucer and plate set from my Grandma in England. She used to use this cup and saucer when she had visitors.

When Grandma died in 1990 my dad went over to England. I asked him to bring me back a cup and saucer as I wanted something that belonged to her.

As I had the other cup and saucer from Nan I really wanted one that belonged to Grandma so I had one from both my grandmothers.

Tuesday's Treasures

This week's Tuesday's Treasure is something that I have only just been given but it has sentimental value.

It is a diamond and sapphire ring that my mother gave me on Sunday when she came up from Sydney for a 2 week holiday.

It was my Grandma's ring. My Grandma was my father's mother and she lived in England so I only met her 3 times. I had 2 wonderful visits in England with her, the last one being when I was 21 years old. I spent 2 months with her and really got to know her. She was a very gentle, kind, loving woman and my father took after her in so many ways.

She also came out to Australia and spent her 92nd birthday here in 1988. She got to meet grandchildren and great grandchildren, including my son, that she had never met before.

I remember her wearing this ring when she went out. It is very special and will be cherished by me and I will always remember her when I wear it.
